Life as it is and as it is not
When we are looking at the painting, the first thing to analyze is tone, colour combinations, spots and their placement, the image itself. Furthermore, we take into account the idea of the painting, its content, the drawn object, a real one or imaginary, a dreamed one or an abstract, the expressed emotion, sensuality, or context. Observing the paintings, we (both viewers and artists) invest so much in colour, texture, into the specifics of paints that create optical illusions. But we do not always remember the time invested into them; we do not remember about the time and human presence. Painting is a very unique activity: in my case, it is a dialogue, but being alone. It is about being here, and not being somewhere else. And how tangible is this presence?
Some of these works were painted in 2014, but more than half of them belong to 2020. Weeks, months, and years are invested in these paintings, and also a lot of understanding and patience, which we do not often talk about, maybe we do not think about it. It is about the time that the artist devotes to the artwork creation, and about the time of his absence. This creative process becomes possible due to the people, especially to those who give invisible support and faith necessary to make this process take place.
This exhibition is dedicated to my beloved husband Petro, the best man I know. Thank You.
