Survival Instinct
Freeze, attack, escape. It is often said that reason stands in opposition to instinct. For these two forces of the “self” — the human and the animal — to truly confront each other, one must face a situation of existential threat.
In this series, I explore the spark that emerges at the collision between the “civilized” and the “wild.” It is in the light reflected from this encounter that the true essence of things can be revealed. More often than not, the wild turns out to be civilized, and the civilized — wild.
Some characters appear as rivals, others as a split of one whole. Some share a common threat, while others become a threat to each other. What the viewer perceives is ultimately a reflection of their own interaction with the world — and with themselves.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I enjoy exploring the post-ironic nature of consumer culture, social media, and human psychology, often conveying these themes through animals as metaphors for human characters. I frequently turn to dreams as a way of examining the subconscious. I am also drawn to Eastern culture and folklore, their perception of reality, and their religious views of the world.
I find inspiration in nature, the unique personalities around me, and surreal or ironic situations from everyday life. These moments become a source of reflection and later take shape on canvas.
I primarily work with oil paints but do not limit myself to a single medium—I also experiment with
acrylics, pastels, and spray paint. My artistic language blends elements of figurative art, surrealism,
and naïve art, reflecting both a path of self-learning and an intuitive creative process.
